OK, the economy is struggling and consumers have lost confidence. We get it. But what really concerns me, is that so many people are unhappy. This is the point where some of you say, Duuuhh. But in my opinion, these two things do not have to be related. In fact, they should not be related at all. With the economy on everyone’s mind, people are so concerned and worried about the “future” that they are forgetting some basic human principles. The first and foremost, is that we, as a species, are incredibly resilient. We have endured events and eras way beyond some periodic financial crisis. The other thing to realize is that how we are reacting to this crisis is only making it worse. OK, maybe that’s easy for me to say because I am employed, and it’s true, it is easier to say when you’re not so desperate trying to figure out how you are going to get through each day. But I can tell you this…the key to better times is making times better.
Try this experiment over the next couple of days…try to be happy, all of the time, regardless of what comes your way. Be the eternal optimist and try to smile, a lot! Make sure to avoid news radio, television news and those people you can count on to always bring you down. Even better, turn off the media altogether. I did this recently and found myself playing games with my boys, making clay sculptures with my wife, organizing my collections, throwing away clutter and working on special projects for work. By eliminating the television I became productive, organized, a better dad, a better husband and began helping my company get through this economic crisis. Do this for one week and let me know how it goes for you.
What you might find is that you will start attracting very positive (and most often successful) people around you. Your negative friends and co-workers will be suspicious, which is fine, so let them. The aura you will be giving off will not only attract positiveness, it will be contagious, you may even find yourself laughing more. And while you’re laughing you will have temporarily forgotten about all of your worries and concerns and you may actually be temporarily happy. And yes, I have read the “Secret” and I do believe strongly in the Law of Attraction. I am also a realist, and realistically, I realized something very important in my life over the last few years….I am in charge of my attitude and my reactions, not anyone else or any thing, including the economy, really.
